The Boot in the Bulgarian Literary Fashion

The book offers a journey in the history of the translations into Bulgarian of a gallery of Italian authors describing lucky encounters, conflicts and successes, criticisms and oppositions. The debuts of writers in translation coincide with emblematic periods in the history and development of the host country, but also articulate, from the first steps, the formation of a professional environment that makes the translation an expression of creativity, an experimental field of languages, a political and identity searching tool. The events of the translated texts, accompanied by comparisons with the original and important details about the literary relations between Italy and Bulgaria from the end of the Nineteenth century to 1989, can be interesting for anyone who is fond of literary translation, Slavic studies, reception and cultural mediation.
