Friedrich Gogarten
The thought of Friedrich Gogarten (1887-1967), whilst being passed through several stages (from the liberal theology to the dialectical theology, to the political-ethical reflection), is characterized mainly as a comparison with the modern world. At the center and chronological top of his theology is in fact the theme of secularization. This, understood as the affirmation of man's authonomy, not only does not conflict with the Christian faith, but is its result. Certainly the Christian faith justifies man before God making him a son, secularizes the world, affirming that it's created, and entrusts it to the responsibility of a man making adult and free precisely from a justifying faith. The world is not the source of the salvation of man, but rather the context in which he responds to the task entrusted to him : "responsibility isĀ the response" . The man's autonomy does not therefore mean the absence of a relationship with God.
