Les Otages

Contre-histoire d'un butin colonial

1890: a French colonel enters Ségou, a city in West Africa, and seizes a treasure. Among the loot, jewelry and a sword. While Senegal has been demanding the return of the saber for decades, a symbol of its collective memory, France is struggling to respond, caught in an ideological and legal straitjacket. Ironically, the jewelry was lost, forgotten or stolen. Following in the footsteps of this treasure, Taina Tervonen discovers a violent colonial history of which the objects are silent witnesses, a story of which we will remain prisoners until it is told.
