Les Vies vides
Notre besoin de reconnaissance est impossible à rassasier
In contemporary society, the search for notoriety represents one of the main problems of our existence. From Hegel to Ricoeur to Honneth, recognition by others, the need to "be seen" has become a fundamental necessity in our relationship with the world. Because we are never enough and, in a context in which the boundaries between social life and privacy are becoming increasingly blurred, it seems that this unbridled race is ultimately leading us adrift.
The author warns the readers against this type of dynamic. This essay proposes to rehabilitate the philosophical notions of humility and modesty, which are reminiscent of discretion and moderation. What kind of world do we want to live in? Will we continue to support these excesses or will we finally accept a change of direction and start working for another world, an alter-world in which otherness, triumphant, will end up defeating all selfishness?
